Dependency is a needed connection to a service.
Deployment Profile
Deployment Profile is a set of software and hardware settings, as well as Service Parameters values.
Endpoint
Endpoint is an entry point to the service.
Environment
An environment is a logical collection of application and/or service templates. Environment lets you group a number of tested templates in one place so that you could quickly deploy or upgrade all of them without having to edit and deploy dozens of separate templates one by one.
Environment Type
Environment classification by some criteria, e.g. Production, Staging, Testing, Development.
Export Service Template
Export Service Template operation allows user to store Service Template model (including all configurations, operations, parameters, scripts, media files, etc.) on file system as standalone ZIP archive. This file could be shared across multiple Unity deployments allowing user to restore Service Template model using Import Service Template operation.
External Network
External Network is the network created by the Service Provider to allow virtual machines in organizations in the Cloud to access the outside world.
Forced Delete Operation
Forced Delete is a type of the Unity operation that removes records as in portal resources as in cloud providers resources. Usually this operation is used if the delete operation fails.
Functional Area
Functional Area is a part of Unity portal that is created based on its purpose. There are five functional areas in Unity: Design Studio, Infrastructure Operations, Application Operations, Development Operations and System Administration.
Hardware Platform
Hardware Platform is the amount of resources that will be allocated directly to a VM when provisioning a service (i.e. the cloud provider’s hardware resources a VM can access).

Media Format
A media format is used exclusively for information-mapping and visualization purposes (so that you could see the list of available formats at a glance): it does not affect the functionality.
Media Store
A media store is a place where certain files (e.g. executable installers, .zip archives, scripts, and so on) are located. Note that Unity supports only SMB media stores, i.e. any Windows file server can be used as a media store. Media stores are visible for any host that Unity deploys.
Module
A module is an analog of service assigned for an end user.
Operation
Operations are performed on a VM to reach some goal (Install, Process Customizations, Undeploy Customizations, Startup, Shutdown)
Organization
Organization (tenant) is a logically isolated asset group. Physical organizations (companies or their units) may be mapped to application organizations (tenants) in a shared environment.
OS Platform
OS Platform is the type of an operating system installed on the provider’s VM image.
Project Archetype
Project Archetype is created and used for developer’s scenario based on attached project file. Project file is generated in the development environment.
Register
Register is a type of Unity operation that allows a system admin to create a space without provisioning.
Role
Role is a name for one or more application permissions or features that a Unity user is allowed to perform when assigned that role.
Service Accounts

Three Service Accounts that may be used in Service Templates are defined:

  • Host Admin – role with full admin privileges for administrative purposes.
  • Service Owner – role used for software installation. All scripts will be run under this user that has admin priv (sudo for Lin and Adm group for win)
  • Endpoint User – end to end user that may be used across different services for application access
Service Category
Service category allows to differentiate between the types of available services.
Service Parameter
Service Parameters are used to parametrize the execution of Operations for different purposes and for scaling. Different values may be set in different Deployment Profiles.
Service Reference
Service Reference is an instance of a service provisioned by Unity or a Shared Service.
Service Template
Service template is a software system that is designed to ease the process of creating and maintaining templates before moving to production.
Service Type
Service type is an umbrella descriptor for the types of services being rendered, e.g. application or hosting services.
Shared Service
A Shared Service is an external service used as an endpoint to the Service or Application Templates.
Site
In Unity, a site is a set of computational and storage resources needed to run one or more spaces. A site is linked to a single cloud; however, you can use one cloud to run and manage multiple sites (if a site is small enough to be run by that cloud).
Space
Space is a virtual container for the software managed within a cloud, i.e. an isolated infrastructure slice that may be used for provisioning and will be provided to Operators and Automation Developers. Note that each space can be linked to only one organization that runs the VMs and apps in that space.
Space Type
Space classification by some criteria, e.g. Public, Nonpublc.
Storage
Storage is a combination of both virtual and physical resources of a provider, e.g. VMware ®, etc. that can be allocated to a site (MBytes).
Stereotype
Stereotype is a system entity which defines the type of a service template by criteria: Leaf, Stack and Application.
System Administrator
System Administrator is a type of user that is created by default. System Administrator has all permissions (View, Add/Edit, Delete) for all Unity Functional Areas.
System Organization
System Organization is a type of organization that is created at installation stage and is required
System Profile
A System Profile is a logical collection of users and user roles assigned to a space.
Tenant Organization
Tenant Organization is a type of organization that is created by System Administrator for customers (tenants).
Topology
Topology describes the arrangement of an environment, including services and their interconnections - dependencies, endpoints, service references.
Unregister Operation
Unregister Operation is a type of an operation resulting cleaning records only in Portal Resources. Cloud providers keep the records. See Delete.
User
A user in the Unity is an identity managed either in the Active Directory system connected to the Unity portal or directly at the Unity Portal. There are 6 types of Users in the Unity system: System Administrator, Tenant Administrator, Automation Developer, Software Developer, Infrastructure Administrator and Operator.
